Transient avatars are ephemeral sculptures created by the sea as we immerse ourselves from land through the air and into the water of the sea. Formed by air pockets wrapped around our bodies, they visualise a moment in which the elements represent us in a surrounding in which we cannot live and that we yet cannot live without: water, the element in which we find our first life form and which continues to constitute most of our human body until we leave it behind.
The shape of these fragile avatars, depends on our own relationship with the transient state of immersion. They become shapeless and break in the struggle against the moment, they last and mimic our body and limbs as we give in, floating with them toward the surface.
Captured through photos, videos and interpreted through paintings, this series is a contemplation about our relationship with our origins in the element water.
